Migrant Children Separated From Family At Border

An independent federal court monitor recently revealed that U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities had engaged in family separation. On at least two occasions during the summer of 2023, border parole agents in Donna, Texas, had kept unaccompanied minors as young as eight years old from their parental figures and family members.

For up to four days at a time, family members were kept in different parts of the facility in an attempt to reduce overcrowding. Interviewed children at these facilities expressed they were unaware of how to communicate with their parents, resulting in emotional distress.

As these separations are against CBP policy, a spokesperson has acknowledged the agency’s commitment to proper investigative action.
