U.S. to Enforce New Photo Requirement for All Non-Citizens Entering and Exiting the Country

Beginning December 26, 2025, every non-citizen including green card holders entering or departing the U.S. will be required to have their photograph taken. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the new rule as a way to boost security and curb the use of fraudulent travel documents through the use of advanced biometric technology. This is part of a larger initiative to strengthen national security and immigration oversight.

Why This Rule Is Important

This new regulation marks the latest effort by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to strengthen oversight of border crossings. This policy change underscores the importance for immigrants and mixed-status families to understand their rights and to seek timely guidance from immigration attorneys.
