The colleges and universities in the United States are amongst the best in the world. Therefore, not surprisingly, many people from around the world dream of being able to study and get their degree from a school in the U.S.
Here is the story of a recent client of Reeves Immigration Law Group (RILG), who we will refer to as “David” to protect his privacy. David was a native and citizen of the Philippines who had entered the U.S. with a tourist visa. David only planned on staying in the U.S. for a short time. However, after entering the U.S. and speaking with family and friends about the educational opportunities in the U.S., he began to wonder if it would be possible for him to study in America.
David consulted with RILG and spoke with Attorney Brittany Milliasseau, a partner of the firm. Attorney Milliasseau explained to David that she could assist him in requesting a change of status with USCIS. She told David that he would change his status from a B-2 Tourist to an F-1 Student.
Attorney Milliasseau thereafter worked closely with David to prepare a strong application. David’s filing included the required USCIS forms, signed documents from David’s intended school, supporting financial documents from David’s sponsor, etc.
David’s request for a change of status was approved in 5 days! He was thrilled with the result and the speed with which it was approved. David was extremely grateful to Attorney Milliasseau for her assistance since he will now have the opportunity to earn his degree in the U.S.
