Professional Experience

Eric R. Welsh is a partner of Reeves Immigration Law Group, and is certified as a specialist in Immigration and Nationality Law by the California Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of California.

Prior to joining the firm in May 2010, Mr. Welsh worked for the Department of Justice, serving as Attorney Advisor to the Los Angeles Immigration Court. In this position, Mr. Welsh worked closely with the Los Angeles immigration judges, drafting court opinions and contributing to judicial decision-making in complex cases. After working with the Department of Justice, Mr. Welsh worked in the civil litigation department of Musick Peeler & Garrett, LLP, a California-based law firm, representing clients in complex litigation in matters ranging from toxic torts to professional malpractice.

Mr. Welsh represents individual and corporate clients in a variety of matters, including but not limited to: removal/deportation defense (cancellation of removal, extreme hardship waivers, 237(a)(1)(H), asylum, VAWA, detention bond), family-based visas (marriage-based adjustment of status, removal of conditions of residency, K-1 fiancé, Child Status Protection Act, I-360 self-petition, consular processing), employment-based visas (PERM/Labor Certification, L-1 intracompany transferee, E-2 investors and employees, E-3 Australians, H-1B), U.S. citizenship (naturalization, claims to derivative and acquired citizenship, CCA), and other immigrant and nonimmigrant visa applications (e.g., F-1 student, B1/B2 visitor, J-1 and Q-1 exchange visitor, etc.). He appears regularly before the Los Angeles Immigration Court, U.S. federal courts, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Customs & Border Patrol (CBP).

Education

Mr. Welsh earned his Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School in 2006, graduating magna cum laude. While in law school, Mr. Welsh served as the Executive Notes & Comments Editor of the Brooklyn Law School Journal of International Law. As a member of the school’s Safe Harbor Clinic, Mr. Welsh assisted noncitizens seeking asylum before the Immigration Court in New York City, and also argued a Petition for Review before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. He completed an internship with the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services Northeast Counsel’s Office in New York City, participating in and analyzing adjudications of spousal-based immediate relative petitions and applications for naturalization.

Mr. Welsh graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, in 2002.

Admissions

Mr. Welsh is a Member in Good Standing of the State Bar of California, admitted in 2007, and the State Bar of Nevada, admitted in 2014. He is certified as a specialist in Immigration and Nationality Law by the California Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of California.  He is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Central District of California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, among others. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association (AILA), the American Bar Association, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
