Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill to increase the budget for migrant transportation. The bill was signed on February 15, 2023, and took effect immediately. DeSantis’ plan allocates additional millions of dollars to expand his administration’s ongoing efforts of transporting migrants to “sanctuary” jurisdictions. Last year, DeSantis was responsible for sending planes filled with migrants to Martha’s Vineyard.
As a result of the Martha’s Vineyard stunt, the DeSantis administration has been the subject of numerous lawsuits. This bill has already raised concerns in the ongoing controversy surrounding the legality of migrant relocation. Florida currently has spent approximately $40,000 per relocated migrant.
