Eric Welsh was recently quoted in Justin Ray’s Los Angeles Times article entitled, “‘I am frustrated and angry’: Why a federal judge’s DACA ruling matters for California.” The article examines a recent DACA ruling in a Texas federal court that suspended a program preventing the deportation of thousands of young immigrants brought into the U.S. as children, and more specifically, the impact this ruling will have on Dreamers throughout California. Eric commented on the increasing concerns of his clients who are existing DACA recipients, especially as backlogs have delayed DACA renewal efforts.
Eric explained, “I hear from my clients a tremendous sense of anxiety, and a tremendous sense of lack of security, even if they’ve been granted DACA. There is a very real and reasonable fear that this is not some permanent relief and a change of presidential administration, Congress or a lawsuit could result in an end to the program.”
