Eric Welsh recently sat down with the Australian Broadcast Corporation for a broadcast interview on the ICE arrests, particularly examining the recent Los Angeles workplace raids that resulted in the arrests of dozens of local immigrants and sparking a national outcry for justice as protestors flooded the streets in response.
In the corresponding article entitled “The United States was built by migrants. In Los Angeles the American Dream of many is being shattered,” Eric explains to ABC that the raids are sending shockwaves of fear in all immigrant communities, even those who entered the country legally or have legal status. He tells ABC, “Green card holders [don’t] want to travel because they’re afraid they’re going to get stopped at the border.”
Eric continues to share that the Administration’s recent crackdowns are not the solution, expressing, “We have an economy that depends on migrant workers … that’s the unspoken truth, but it is a truth we need to acknowledge. And we’re not doing anything to treat them humanely.”
