The U.S. Department of State will begin a visa renewal pilot program starting in January 2024. Under this pilot, a limited number of 20,000 H-1B visa holders can mail in a renewal for their visas domestically as opposed to having to travel to a U.S. consulate in their home country. This will ideally reduce backlogs and travel, and lead to a more efficient process.
With this, the Department of State also announced that it will be extending interview waivers for certain categories of temporary visas, which were supposed to expire at the end of 2023. Interview waivers allow for the issuance of visas without requiring in-person interviews. This again, has helped many industries continue to hire without facing inefficiencies and backlogs over the interview process.
Reeves Immigration Law Group: Business Immigration Attorneys at Your Service
The pilot program can significantly improve the renewal process for H-1B holders. While this can be a great process for H-1B employees, it is still important for visa holders in and outside of the pilot program to consult a business immigration attorney for the renewal process. Working with an immigration lawyer ensures your application does not contain any mistakes that may jeopardize your status.
