New York and Chicago are dealing with a “migrant crisis.”
Chicago recently unveiled its plan to implement up to five new migrant shelters to address this population influx. These shelters will have a combined capacity of nearly 2,500. With this development, the 30-day new arrival limit has been paused, allowing those in need of shelter to remain longer.
New York has also noticed a significant increase in the number of migrants seeking shelter, with the city seeing nearly a doubling in numbers. Since last spring, approximately 80,000 migrants have come through the shelters.
