Texas Suspends CBP One Mobile App After Extortion Issues

Asylum appointments through the CBP One app have been halted in Laredo, Texas. At this time the U.S. Customs and Border Protection has yet to make an official statement regarding this suspension.

Advocates had recently vocalized their concerns over potential migrant targeting in this port. Allegedly, officials on the Mexican side of the border in Nuevo Laredo had made threats to hold the individuals, causing them to miss their scheduled asylum appointments, unless they paid them.

In light of this decision, the U.S. will continue to open 1,250 daily appointments on CBP One but will reallocate Laredo’s slots to the other seven points of entry along the border. Any appointments made before June 3, 2023, will be honored.
