Trump Administration Unveils Site to Sign Up for $5 Million “Gold Card” Visa Program

Four months after revealing plans to sell $5 million “gold card” visas to wealthy foreign buyers in exchange for permanent legal residency and a path to citizenship in February, the Trump administration has officially unveiled the program’s website at trumpcard.gov.

The site prompts interested applicants to fill out a form with that includes eight regions – Europe, Asia (including Middle East), North America, Oceania, Central America, South America, Caribbean, and Africa – in order to obtain a spot on the waitlist for what is now being dubbed a “Trump card.”

The Gold Card’s Path to Citizenship and EB-5 Visa’s Fates Remain Uncertain

Similar to his rhetoric when discussing the program in February, Trump has maintained that he will not be seeking approval from Congress as “gold card” recipients will solely receive a path to citizenship, not citizenship itself. However, that path and its requirements are unclear – the administration has said that more details will be provided soon.

Although the “gold card” program was initially pitched by Trump as a replacement for EB-5 visas, launched in 1990 to grant permanent legal residency to individuals who invest significant amounts of money in a company, the administration has not indicated an official end to the EB-5 program, which was reauthorized by Congress in 2022.
