The Department of Homeland Security announced that they are drastically raising fees for many immigration applications and petitions filed with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). USCIS is experiencing a severe budget shortfall and are looking at the possibility of massive furloughs. The average fee increase is approximately 20%, which is on top of the average increase of 21% less than four years ago.
Here are some of the more notable fee increases:
-N-400 Application for Naturalization – new filing fee will be $1,170. This is an increase of $530 (83%).
-I-589 Application for Asylum – new filing fee will be $50. There is currently not a fee in recognition of the fact that these applications are being filed by people fleeing persecution.
-I-601A Provisional Unlawful Presence Waiver – new filing fee will be $960. This is an increase of $330 (52%).
New fees apply to applications and petitions filed on or after October 2, 2020. File now to avoid the new fees!
