Kim Luu-Ng To Speak at AAPI Power: Democracy In Action Policy Summit

Kim Luu-Ng is slated to speak at the AAPI Power: Democracy In Action Policy Summit on May 21, 2026, from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm PT as part of their Breakout Session: Immigration Enforcement. The event, taking place at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, California, is dedicated to uniting individuals to resist authoritarianism and defend democracy as the midterm elections approach.

As Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities have experienced quickly changing policies at local, state, and federal levels, as well as threats to civil rights, the AAPI Power: Democracy in Action Policy Summit will unite individuals to bolster democratic involvement and build intersectoral partnerships. The summit seeks to prepare AAPI leaders with the necessary tools and strategies and will focus on two main ideas: immigration enforcement and long-term capacity building. Organizers, legal experts, and advocates will come together for community defense strategies and address current threats in immigration enforcement. They will also help participants develop skills to communicate effectively in high-pressure situations, counter misinformation, and frame issues clearly.

In Kim’s breakout session, she will be speaking alongside the Executive Director of Advancing Justice SOCAL, Dahni K. Tsuboi, and the Managing Director of Policy for Chinese Affirmative Action, Annie Lee. Together, the three individuals will embark on an impactful conversation, informing attendees about the advocacy efforts occurring at the federal, state, and local government levels to push back against the anti-immigration agenda set by the Trump administration, as well as how to support and join those advocacy efforts. The moderator of the breakout session will first provide an overview of the panelists and of the federal policy landscape, including immigration enforcement funding, regulatory changes, and review the Stop AAPI Hate Analysis of Asian/Pacific Islander through ICE data. This overview will steer the panelists into a guided discussion, where they will explore how immigration enforcement is impacted at a local and state level, and how to fight back. The panelists will then partake in an audience Q&A and round out the breakout session by answering how they continue to have hope in this current moment.
