Reeve’s Immigration Law Group Quoted in Houston Chronicle on DACA Recipient’s Arrest and Detainment Following Social Media Activity

Reeves Immigration Law Group was recently featured in a Houston Chronicle article, “From DACA to detention: Immigrant in Texas held after social media posts, lawyers say,” which examines the detention of Texas DACA recipient Ya’akub Ira Vijandre following immigration enforcement actions tied to social media activity that resulted in his arrest.

The article details the particulars of Vijandre’s arrest after his DACA status was revoked and outlines the legal issues raised by the case, including claims that protected speech was used as a basis for immigration enforcement. Vijandre, who has lived in the United States since 2001, currently remains in detention while his legal team pursues immigration relief and a federal court petition seeking his release.

In an analysis cited by the Houston Chronicle, Reeves Immigration Law Group stated that Vijandre’s case is one of approximately 20 involving arrested DACA recipients, noting: “Alongside the heightened scrutiny of immigrants’ social media activity, it signals a broader trend of stripping DACA protections. This shift reflects a more aggressive and far-reaching enforcement approach, leaving many DACA recipients facing increased uncertainty and vulnerability.”
